Courses in Social Studies, Turkish History and Atatürk’s Principles and Revolutions and Religious Culture and Ethics play an important role in the socialization process of students and their recognition of certain values.

The social studies curriculum is designed to raise students who “love their homeland and nation, are aware that all individuals and organizations are equal before the law, can use basic communication skills, understand the importance of Atatürk’s principles and revolutions, believe that every profession is necessary and respected, can use the basic concepts and methods of social sciences, know and use their rights, have a national consciousness, are aware of their physical and emotional characteristics as free individuals, have developed spatial perception skills, try to protect natural resources, understand the importance of the national economy, perceive change and continuity, use information and communication technologies consciously, accept that cultural heritage should be protected and developed, and accept national and spiritual values, and have developed spatial perception skills, try to protect natural resources, understand the importance of national economy, perceive change and continuity, consciously use information and communication technologies, accept that cultural heritage should be protected and developed, adopt national and spiritual values, observe scientific ethics, believe in the importance of participation, know the importance and ways of being a virtuous person, have critical thinking skills, know the importance of work in social life, and adopt universal values”.

A holistic, student-centered, values-based, knowledge, skills, and behaviors based on learning domains from general to specific, concrete to abstract, simple to complex, and holistic approach is adopted in the implementation of the social studies course. The utilization of out-of-school environments such as historical buildings, monuments, museums, cities, and battlefields is also highly valued. Our aim is to enable our students to: “perceive change and continuity, communication, empathy, drawing and interpreting tables, graphs and diagrams, entrepreneurship, observation, legal literacy, environmental literacy, use evidence, critical thinking, decision making, media literacy, innovative thinking, perception of space, digital citizenship, perception of time and chronology, self-control, problem solving, social participation, recognition of stereotypes and prejudices, research, cooperation, correct, beautiful and effective use of Turkish, map literacy and site analysis”.

In line with the goals of our department, traditional activities such as “March 21 Equinox Day”, “March 1 Zero Discrimination Photo Contest”, “History Corner”, “Blue Cap Campaign”, “Second Hand Book and Goods Donation”, “Electronic Waste Campaign”, “Ecology and Environmental Studies”, ” Current World Problems Discussion Events”, “Sign Language Activities”, “Breath for the Future: Support for the Sapling Adoption Campaign”, “Map Reading:Finding a Country Contest”, “Early Civilizations Costume Design”, “Clay Tablet Activity”.

With the social studies program, it is aimed that students acquire the following knowledge and skills:

  • To adopt Atatürk’s principles and revolutions in universal dimension and to comprehend their importance, 
  • Recognizing their interests, wishes and abilities, 
  • To have a sustainable environmental understanding, 
  • To understand the concepts of human rights, national sovereignty, democracy, republic, 
  • To think critically and analytically, 
  • To be sensitive about issues concerning their country and the world, 
  • To be able to organize their lives according to democratic rules,
  • To be able to use information and communication technologies consciously, 
  • To be willing to keep national and contemporary values alive, 
  • To be a conscious and active citizen who fulfills his/her responsibilities.
