The mathematics curriculum at Irmak Middle School is integrated with the principles of the International Baccalaureate (IB) program and is concept and inquiry based. Our students are expected to develop their social skills through mathematical discovery and inquiry activities throughout the unit. Individual differences are addressed in the classroom and strategies are developed for different learning styles. Students’ learning is supported through the use of technology and in and out-of-class learning environments. Everyday examples are used to emphasize that mathematics is a reality in life. This context is reinforced through in-class activities, field trips, and interdisciplinary studies.

Our department goals are:

  • To ensure that students develop a positive attitude towards mathematics,
  • To provide students with the mathematical skills necessary for analyzing, modeling and interpreting the events they encounter or will encounter in their daily lives,
  • To ensure that students know and use the language of mathematics correctly,
  • To develop students’ ability to conduct research, produce and use information,
  • To provide opportunities for students to think critically and creatively from a range of perspectives,
  • Using differentiated teaching methods and techniques,
  • To enable students to associate mathematics with other fields through interdisciplinary studies.
