Private Space and Boundaries
During the week of November 18-22, the Department of Psychological Counseling and Guidance taught “Private Space and Boundaries” to 5th grade students. Within the scope of this course, the concepts of private space and public space were explained and the topics of setting and respecting boundaries were emphasized. In addition, private space and boundaries in social media were discussed, account security and negative consequences that may be encountered in case of security breaches were explained. Students were tried to gain the ability to protect themselves and awareness was raised on how they should behave in cases of violation of personal boundaries. They were also supported to distinguish between private and public spaces and to think about the necessity of these spaces.
It was emphasized that every body is private, intimacies and relationships may require different boundaries, and sharing of feelings, thoughts and experiences may be limited. It was stated that information about personal and private life should only be shared with family and trusted people. In addition, the importance of respecting individuals’ posts on social media was emphasized.
