Germany – Amsterdam Mathematikum and Culture Field Trip
The Germany – Amsterdam Science and Culture trip we organized between May 7-10 was an educational and fun adventure full of unforgettable memories. We started our journey with Erlebnis Zoo, one of the most famous zoos in Germany. We discovered the rich diversity of nature by observing more than 5,000 animals in their natural habitats in themed habitats such as Zambezi (Africa), Yukon Bay (Canada), Meyer’s Farm and Gorilla Mountain. Then we set off on the “Fairy Tale Trail” and experienced unforgettable moments on the trail of magical stories. Our journey started with the legend of the Pied Piper in Hamelin. At Snow White’s house and the Seven Dwarfs Mine, we discovered the historical facts behind the fairy tales and learned to look at the stories from a different perspective. We visited the Little Red Riding Hood Museum and watched the theater show, taking us on a pleasant journey through the fairy tale world. We also kept our curiosity about science alive on this journey. Mathematikum, an interactive science museum in Giessen, offered us the opportunity to explore mathematics in a fun and hands-on way. From geometric shapes to optical illusions, from mathematical modeling to number games, we realized how mathematics is intertwined with real life through a wide range of interactive experiences. The Chocolate Museum in Cologne was a sweet stop that brought history and taste together. We traced the fascinating journey from cocoa beans to chocolate. The last stop of our trip was Amsterdam’s famous NEMO Science Museum. We felt the excitement of discovering and learning by experiencing scientific experiments one-to-one. This trip broadened the students’ cultural and scientific perspectives and gave them new horizons.
