The Land of Beautiful Horses: Cappadocia

The Land of Beautiful Horses: Cappadocia

As part of an educational trip organized by the Turkish and Social Sciences Department, our 7th grade students visited Cappadocia on April 17–18. In this unique region, one of Türkiye’s most significant natural and historical heritage sites, students extended their learning beyond the classroom through an experiential learning approach.

During the trip, students participated in a traditional pottery workshop in Avanos, where they explored one of Türkiye’s most valuable cultural crafts through hands-on experience. At Özkonak Underground City, they examined the living spaces of ancient civilizations, gaining deeper historical awareness.

Visits to Çavuşin, Göreme, and Uçhisar Castle allowed students to closely observe the rich historical texture of Cappadocia, while explorations in Pigeon Valley and Devrent Valley revealed the extraordinary formations shaped by nature.

This enriching experience supported the development of students’ observation, inquiry, critical thinking, and ability to connect historical and geographical knowledge with real-life contexts. Designed in alignment with the values of the Ministry of National Education—including values education, cultural heritage awareness, and active learning—this trip also reflects Irmak Schools’s mission to cultivate inquisitive, reflective, and globally minded individuals.
