Irmak Middle School is conscious of the fact that science and technology education plays a key role in the future of societies in today’s information and technology age, where scientific knowledge is growing exponentially, technological innovations are advancing at a fast pace, and their effects are evident in every aspect of our lives, and continues its studies in this regard.

In order to increase the success of our students in STEAM literacy, our goals and objectives can be listed as follows:

  • To be open to scientific and technological developments,
  • To enable students to acquire new knowledge through research, reading, and discussion,
  • To enable students to use science and technology to solve problems in everyday life,
  • To enable students to use appropriate scientific processes and principles in making personal decisions,
  • To educate environmentally conscious individuals.

Taking into account scientific and technological developments, science and technology education at Irmak Middle School is conducted with an understanding that is far from rote memorization, where theoretical studies based on research and inquiry are supported by applications.

Our departmental goals are:

  • To enable students to understand the nature of science and technology and the interactions between science, technology, society and the environment,
  • To create an infrastructure that enables students to develop knowledge, experience and interest in science and technology-based careers in matters such as education and career choice,
  • To enable students to apply science and technology in unusual situations, to acquire new knowledge and to solve problems,
  • To enable students to use appropriate scientific processes and principles in making personal decisions,
  • To enable students to apply instructions given for laboratory work and to ensure that they exhibit appropriate teamwork behaviors,
  • To enable students to evaluate the results of experiments and to write an experimental report,
  • To ensure that our students can use the knowledge they have acquired to be successful in national examinations.

“Irmak Engineering Week” and “Creative Science in Irmak (CSI)” events are organized alternately every year to enhance our students’ skills such as scientific method, establishing relationships between events, design-oriented thinking, and teamwork. Teams design a different engineering project at each grade level and experience different scientific concepts in real life while developing their teamwork skills. The event aims to increase our students’ understanding and interest in engineering and technology careers.

International and domestic science trips such as “Cambridge Science Festival”, “Edinburgh Science Festival”, “CERN” are organized to ensure that students understand and comprehend the information they learn in class, increase their scientific knowledge on the subject, and develop their high-level thinking skills for future learning.

The Science Department encourages our students to participate in national and international science project competitions based on experimental data, where they can use their scientific thinking and creative skills. (TUBITAK, Science Buddies, NASA SpaceArt, Urfodu…)
