A Memorable Debut by Nil Aygen
One of Turkey’s leading contemporary music events, the Journey of Sound – Young Composers Festival, opened its doors for the 16th time this year.
Held between May 2–4, 2025 at the Atatürk Cultural Center with the support of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Turkey and contributions from the Ernst von Siemens Foundation, the festival brought together young composers and internationally acclaimed artists in an inspiring musical atmosphere.
Organized under the coordination of the Istanbul Composers Collective (ICC), the festival featured works by emerging composers selected from 17 conservatories and art faculties across Turkey, all performed and archived by professional ensembles.
One of the most memorable performances of this year’s program came from our 4th grade student Nil Aygen, with her composition titled “Three Poems by Özdemir Asaf.” She was accompanied on stage by her parents — renowned artists Nihan Aygen and Murat Aygen — who gave voice to the poems during the performance. This touching family collaboration offered the audience an unforgettable experience, blending musical artistry with emotional depth.
With participation from renowned international ensembles and composers, the festival continues to provide a valuable platform for young talents while sharing the inspiring power of contemporary music with new generations.
We sincerely congratulate Nil and wish her continued success on her musical journey.
