2nd Graders Explored the Traces of the Past at Beylerbeyi Palace

As part of the “Where We Are in Place and Time” PYP theme, our Grade 2 students at Irmak Okulları participated in an enriching educational visit to Beylerbeyi Palace, reflecting our commitment to nurturing inquisitive, research-oriented, and experiential learners.

During this field trip, students had the opportunity to explore a historical landmark on-site and observe how living spaces have evolved from the past to the present. By carefully examining the palace’s rooms, halls, and sections reflecting daily life, students gained insight into how people lived, organized their spaces, and adapted their environments in different historical periods.

Throughout the visit, students analyzed architectural features, furniture, decoration styles, and construction materials, enabling them to compare past and present living environments. They also reflected on different housing types and questioned how climate and environmental conditions influence living spaces. Observing the palace’s unique location along the Bosphorus, they developed an understanding of how environmental factors shape architectural design.

Aligned with the core values of the Ministry of National Education, this experience enhanced students’ awareness of cultural and historical heritage while strengthening their observation, critical thinking, and analytical skills.
