Turning The Pencil Into A Brush
With our 11th grade students, we carried out a “Picturesque Poetry Writing Activity” within the scope of the “Art Movements” unit in the Turkish language and literature course.
Picturesque poetry, known as the tradition of writing poetry under painting, emerged under the influence of the Parnacism movement, which is called realism in poetry. Picturesque poetry became widespread especially during the Servetifünun Period in Turkish literature. While studying the parnacism movement, in which literature and painting, two important branches of fine arts, were highly influenced by each other, we asked our students to write poems based on the photographs they took or the pictures that had an important place for them. Thus, products emerged in which they both reinforced the in-class gains and exhibited their creativity.
