AP gives students the chance to tackle college-level work while they’re still in high school and earn college credit and placement.

Advanced Placement (AP) is a program in the United States and Canada created by the College Board. AP offers undergraduate university-level curricula and examinations to high school students. Colleges and universities in the US and elsewhere may grant placement and course credit to students who obtain qualifying scores on the examinations. The AP curriculum for each of the various subjects is created for the College Board by a panel of experts and college-level educators in that academic discipline. AP may be called a preliminary university program. At the stage of admission to university, taking AP classes  in high school and passing the exams with successful grades is a very important sign of being ready for academic education for a student.

AP has been offered as an enrichment program at Irmak High School since 2016. Through AP courses, students enhance critical thinking skills, gain added perspectives in dealing with issues, and acquire skills which prepare them for college. AP exams follow an international exam calendar and are administered over two weeks in May. Irmak High School is an authorized AP exam center by the College Board. AP exams are scored on a scale of 1-5. Most colleges and universities in the USA and Canada grant credits or placement for scores of 3, 4, and 5 and thus allow students to skip introductory courses pertinent to the AP courses they took in high school.
