The Final Round of the Irmak Debate Tournament Has Been Successfully Held

The Irmak Debate Tournament, which has become a well-established tradition, concluded with its grand final held at the Irmak Auditorium on Tuesday, March 24.

Following the preliminary rounds, in which participants demonstrated outstanding performance, the top speakers advanced to the final stage and were regrouped into mixed teams. They competed under the motion: “This House believes that, in order to prevent corruption, full authority should be granted to an algocratic system in the governance of the judiciary and the economy.”

The final round, conducted in a parliamentary debate format, featured the following participants:

  • Opening Government: Muhammet Alper Akış and Sinan Şentürk
  • Closing Government: Doruk Basmacı and Ece Lara Tümenbatur
  • Opening Opposition: Beril Şarkaya and Ceyda Şekerler
  • Closing Opposition: Ayşe Ela Ertan and Fırat Güney Aksoy

The jury panel included our Turkish Language and Literature teachers Burcu Arıcan Tufan, Seda Özer, Burcu Ertuğrul, Derya Devrimsel, and Yasemin Aydın Şen, alongside members of the Irmak Debate Team, Ela Bostancı and Derin Akar, and Argument Factory trainer Muhammet Zeybek.

Following a highly competitive and intellectually rigorous debate, the Opening Opposition team, Beril Şarkaya and Ceyda Şekerler, was declared the winner of the final round. Doruk Basmacı was awarded Best Speaker of the Final.
