We Held a “White Nights” Interview With Barış Özkul
“…we are all dreamers to some extent!”
Dostoyevski
Our 10th grade students had an in-depth reading with Barış ÖZKUL, the Classics Editor of İletişim Publishing House, about “White Nights”, a tender, enveloping and sad story written at the age of 27 by F. M. Dostoyevsky, one of the greatest writers not only in 19th century Russian literature but also in world literature.
Based on this work, which Dostoyevsky enriched with his observations on “loneliness, humanity, St. Petersburg, real life and the world of imagination” and which is partly a story of a romantic love triangle and partly a story of personality fragmentation, our students prepared an e-magazine called “St. Petersburg through the Eyes of a Dreamer” in which they reflected the effect of the place on the fiction. Our students also had the opportunity to exhibit their personal drawings reflecting their impressions of the book as readers.
