In line with this, we enrich our programs using content and educational approaches from the internationally recognized resource, Common Sense Media. In collaboration with the Psychological Counseling and Guidance Department and the Information Technologies Department, lessons and activities were conducted under the theme “Coping with Challenges and Safe Relationships”, focusing on bullying in its physical, emotional, and cyber forms. Additionally, age-appropriate family activities were shared with parents via email to reinforce the information. Within this framework, 5th and 6th grade students were guided to develop awareness of potential negative content and messages they may encounter in social relationships and on social media. The sessions emphasized recognizing personal boundaries, responding appropriately to uncomfortable situations, and sharing negative experiences with teachers and parents without concealment, in line with the principle “Nothing is secret online!”. These concepts were reinforced through interactive guidance activities and student reflections. For 7th grade students, the focus was on the impact of social media on friendships. Brainstorming sessions addressed over-sharing of personal information, feelings of regret, and emotional discomfort. Discussions highlighted that excessive and varied social media use can amplify difficult emotions, hinder coping strategies, and exacerbate problems. The “Red Flag Feeling” activity helped students identify negative situations, determine positive strategies, express them, and explore applicable methods. Students were encouraged to behave responsibly and mindfully in digital environments. In sessions with 8th grade students, lessons focused on cognitive traps in digital use, the impact of online behavior on daily life, and strategies to maintain digital well-being. Students explored identifying negative automatic thoughts, labeling them, recognizing mind-reading and personalization, focusing on negative feedback, and dealing with overgeneralizations or unrealistic expectations. Interactive activities enabled students to compare online portrayals of life with real-life experiences and critically evaluate overly positive content that may affect mental well-being, promoting a balanced and healthy perspective on social media. This comprehensive approach supports students in developing awareness, resilience, and responsible digital citizenship across all grade levels.

Haberin Türkçesi için tıklayınız.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_gallery interval=”3″ images=”16651″ img_size=”1080×800″ css=””][/vc_column][/vc_row]

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=””] Ensuring that our students navigate the digital world as safe and responsible individuals is of great importance.
