{"id":10994,"date":"2023-01-17T14:31:47","date_gmt":"2023-01-17T14:31:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/irmak.k12.tr\/high\/?page_id=10994"},"modified":"2023-12-28T09:33:35","modified_gmt":"2023-12-28T06:33:35","slug":"university-counseling","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/irmak.k12.tr\/high\/university-counseling\/","title":{"rendered":"University Counseling"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b>Working Method and Responsibilities<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The \u201cInternational College Counselling\u201d at Irmak Schools aims to help students with their choice of international colleges taking into account their interests, talent and success.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the selection of a college, to be successful the process should be managed together by the school, parent and student, and the most suitable college selected. Everyone involved in the process should take responsibility and be in contact with each other. The student should be the leader in this process by researching, planning and making the final decision. Informing the students, monitoring the school&#8217;s application processes and guiding the students are the basic tasks of the department.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Our expectations of our parents in this process; are to support and encourage the students. The main responsibilities of the counsellor are to; provide information to students regarding colleges and programs, prepare a list of colleges for application, write a letter of reference as the counsellor, and introduce the student to the colleges in the best possible way. This process, with correct direction and organization, can be a valuable life experience to last a lifetime. The International College Counselling Department of Irmak High School will gladly take this journey with our students and will help them at each step.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>TIMETABLE FOR INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY APPLICATIONS<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>11th Grade \u2013 1st Term<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Take the PSAT exam in October.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Meet with the international college counsellor.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Participate in the school and outside international college presentations and fairs.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Start making general plans with your family regarding studying abroad.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Start studying for SAT 1, SAT 2, TOEFL or IELTS exams.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><b>11th Grade \u2013 2nd Term<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Meet with the international college counsellor.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Participate in meetings for students planning on studying abroad.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Participate in the school and outside international college presentations and fairs.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Learn about summer school and complete your application.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Prepare a detailed list of universities by doing research and try to shorten this list with your counsellor by the end of the term.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Take the SAT 1 and\/or SAT 2 exams in May or June, you can take TOEFL or IELTS in these months too.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Request brochures and application forms from colleges.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Start preparing your essays.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Determine a list of teacher\u2019s names for reference letters.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> If you will travel abroad during the summer, visit the university campuses and try to arrange an appointment for an interview.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><b>12th Grade \u2013 1st Term<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Students who wish to apply to universities in California, should consult with their international college counsellor as soon as possible, the deadline for applications is usually November 1st.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> There is an early application system for some universities in America (Early Action \/ Early Decision) \u2013 the deadline is November 1st or 15th of November. Students should consult with their counsellors as soon as possible.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Register to retake the required standardized tests (SAT \/ TOEFL, etc.).<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Participate in the school and outside international college presentations and fairs.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Correct and complete your application essays.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Request letters of reference from your teachers.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Give all your school reports to your counsellor.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Talk regularly with your counsellor.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Make a plan to send all your applications through your international college counsellor.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><b>12th Grade \u2013 2nd Term<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Talk with the colleges you applied to and check whether anything is missing from your application.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Inform your counsellor regarding responses received.
